Cognitive Enhancement & Rehab
Hello & thanks for stopping by. You have entered into a Gnorml (pronounced normal) world of rehabilitation with a focus on brain injury, neurodegenerative processes, stroke recovery and the professionals and families that care for these survivors. For anyone who has or is working with folks in the rehab arena, you already know this process is far from “normal” and the support we get from others with similar experiences is invaluable.
So a little history – Gnorml.com was the brain child of my husband originally, with the thought that our minds are largely unconquered territory. We both have a love of learning what makes us tick as humans and tend to view life in a non-traditional way. This carries over into our occupations, our life goals and our roles as parents. Gnorml.com encourages free thinking, especially those thoughts that occur “outside the box”. As a speech therapist, my approach to treatment has always been such, with a natural gravitation to completing real word tasks vs. workbook tasks. I find that people respond so much more to functional cognitive challenges, although early on in recovery, some of those workbooks surely have their place.
My purpose in developing this site is to provide support and selective information that is educational and interesting in a forum that encourages us to be better, more effective and well-balanced. Survivors, colleagues, families and other professionals who wish to contribute their experiences and knowledge is always welcome. Have fun & think freely.
This is the personal web blog of Stephanie Lewis, Certified Speech Language Pathologist in California, practicing in San Diego. The purpose of this website is to provide information and support to individuals and families dealing with traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Many thanks - Stephanie Lewis, MA, CCC-SLP
